Hey People.

So I decided with the influence of one of my developer friends to learn C++. I am going to be following along with the site http://www.learncpp.com/. These posts will describe the sections I’ve covered and also what little mini side projects I’ve been working on. I’m hoping as time progresses I get involved into a much larger project and hopefully GUI based programs, then a simple video game, and then finally a real video game.

Today I covered sections 1.1 to 1.3 at work, which covered the basic structures of a program. The side project I did was a simple console app that presented the user with a simple menu, that they would choose whether they wanted to do Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, or Division. Once they selected which one they wanted, they then could do an unlimited amount of numbers, and when they decided to stop adding numbers by entering 0, the program would report their answer. Here are some screen grabs from the .EXE

So that’s the update on that. If you want the code I used to do it, feel free to leave a comment.

So today I did a quick work out of my lower body. It was quick because I either need to really practice my squat form or find an exercise to replace them, because I always am worried about hurting myself when I do squats. Anyways here’s the summary of the five exercises I did today

Squats

Reps Weight
10 115 lbs
10 115 lbs
9 115 lbs
8 135 lbs
3 135 lbs

On the last set I got too nervous about hurting myself so I stopped.

Calf Raises

Reps Weight
30 18
25 21 (Machine Max)
25 21
25 21
20 21
34 15

Leg Presses

Reps Weight
10 15
10 15
10 15
10 13
10 10
20 10

I then attempted to do leg raises but my hip flexors started to feel weird so I stopped. I just finished 8 Minute abs.

Short workout. Once I get more of a routine set for legs it’ll be longer.

Projects

I’ve come up with a schedule or projects that I am going to stick with in order to continue bettering myself. I feel that this is a pretty aggressive schedule but each of them I’ll love doing so I’ll stick with it. Plus each project will give me the motivation to keep writing in this blog.  The updates won’t be so much life updates, more like project updates and each project should be separate entities even though most of them will collide with one another.

So let’s get started. This will be organized by days of the week.

Monday – Guitar

In senior year of high school I took a class called “Intro to Acoustic Guitar.” I loved playing guitar in that class and the songs were primarily lead pieces and very simple rhythm pieces. I fully expected to have the time to continue progressing in my guitar playing throughout college but unfortunately due to sheer fear of being judged by my guitar wielding friends and lack of time to dedicate to practice, I never much improved. However now that I live on my own, I can dedicate a couple hours at least one day a week, maybe more on other days. But the thing is, I’ll be writing a summary of what I have been practicing, what theory I’ve been learning, what songs I’ve been learning and HOPEFULLY a video of me playing a song. The song is going to force me out of my comfort zone because well, I don’t like performing in front of people when I’m nervous. That summary will come out on Monday Night’s.

Tuesday – Let’s Plays

Let’s be honest, I love video games. And I have not one but two computers which are strong enough to play some decent video games. So what I’m going to be doing is restarting my Let’s Play Channel, in which I play a game and give commentary similar to Helloween4545 on YouTube. These videos will be posted on this blog, but will be uploaded to my second YouTube channel (of which you can see the remenants of the first Let’s Play Trial) – http://www.youtube.com/Roymond35

I fully expect that I may do more than one game at a time. I might do a let’s play of Minecraft in addition to a Let’s Play of Skyrim, and I also fully expect that when I get into a game, the videos will come out more often but at the very least it will be once a week.

Wednesday – Work Out Progress

The current plan for this project is to upload a blog post after EVERY workout I do. But on Wednesdays in addition to the normal work out, I’ll post pictures of my progress. The format of the posts will be similar to the one you saw yesterday.

Thursdays – Programming

I’ve always been a sucker for programming. Several times throughout my college career I debated changing majors to computer science just so I could learn programming more. The first language I’m going to learn is C++. I’m going to post weekly updates of the struggles I’m having as well as ZIP files of the little programs I have been working on so that way people can see the progression of my coding confidence.

Saturdays – Foreign Language

I’ve always wanted to learn a foreign language and I’ve decided that I’m going to dedicate at least 2 hours on Saturday to learn and practice it. I know that dedicating such a small amount of time to it will hinder the progress of it, but again, I expect to practice and do little exercises in between. This will start up NEXT Saturday (Feb 25th) because I haven’t completely decided on a language I want to learn yet.

Sundays – Website Design

As you can see from the relative inactivity of Total Recoil, my dad has abandoned that idea. The truth is he’s abandoned the name and instead of Total Recoil, he’s purchased the domain name Blackhawk13.com and tasked me to design the entire website from scratch. So I will be doing most of this on Sundays.

Other Stuff

There is one more thing that I have yet to talk about, but it is going to play a significant role in nearly all my projects. Video Editing. I will still be making videos of my dad and I shooting guns, as well as the videos of me playing guitar, the Let’s Play Videos, and if I decide to do some other videos along the way then I will be posting them here or in the very least on one of my two channels.

My friend Josh said that I need a project to distract myself from the fact that my ex chose someone else over me and that it would help with the healing process so I’m going to make myself a project. I’ve never been absolutely happy with my body so I am going to use this blog as motivation to get more in shape. I’m going to post my entire workout for the day (which generally I work out Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays but I am going to add at least one more day dedicated to legs/lower body) and most importantly I’m going to do something that I am normally very bashful of. Post pictures of my progress.

What I want to add for the next workout. Skull Crushers, 21′s. The reason I didn’t have them this time is because honestly, I am very hungry.

Now for the Part I hate the most… Pictures. These are from my phone because I could not find my camera, so kind of low quality.

What do I want out of this project:

Honestly, What I want to do is get it so I can look at myself from the front and not feel kind of chubby. It’s always been a problem of mine and it’s my goal to just get rid  of it.

Sometimes

Posted: January 25, 2012 in Uncategorized

Sometimes you can just try with all your might and still lose. I think the last couple days have shown me that I’m going to just lose.

I just wish I could have her back. But no matter what I do it isn’t good enough.

So last night and a couple random nights in my past I’ve had a dream that was eerily similar to this one. So to cut to the chase, here’s what happened in it

It’s the first day of university, or the first day of classes, I couldn’t quite tell all I know is that there were a ton of people that I didn’t know around me. I was walking up to a class or my dorm room in a really tall building with a huge staircase. I start climbing the staircase with all the other people but then it starts getting more and more painful. It feels as if my left leg is being frozen and it makes climbing the stairs increasingly difficult until I get to the next floor where I find a cane. My progress is still dreadfully slow but I remain kind and help people with disabilities by holding a door open and letting them go first. My dream ends with me still climbing at a dreadfully slow pace, with a lot of pain, and using the cane to muster the strength to continue.

Now for those of you who believe in Dream interpretations, here’s what I could find:

College

To dream that you are in college indicates that you are going through some social or cultural changes. You want to expand your knowledge and awareness. It also suggests that now is a good time for you to experiment and try new things. If you had gone to college in your past, then also consider your personal experiences and memories of your college days.

Climbing stairs

To dream that you are walking up a flight of stairs indicate that you are achieving a higher level of understanding. You are making progress into your spiritual, emotional or material journey. The dream is also analogous to material and thoughts that are coming to the surface.

really slowly

To dream that you are moving in slow motion suggests that you are feeling powerless, anxious or frustrated. You are currently going through a hard time in your waking life and experiencing tremendous stress, which is almost immobilizing you.

as if in pain (muscles locking up)

To dream that you are in pain suggests that you are being too hard on yourself, especially if a situation was out of your control. The dream may also be a true reflection of actual pain that exists somewhere in your body. Dreams can reveal and warn about health problems. Consider where the pain is for additional significance. If the pain is in your neck, then the dream may be a metaphor that you are literally being a “pain in the neck”.

lots of people

To see people you don’t know in your dream denotes hidden aspects of yourself that you need to confront or acknowledge.

have a cane

To see or use a cane in your dream suggests that you are in need of some support and advice. The cane may also represent someone you trust and can rely on.

Helping People

To dream that you are helping someone indicates your willingness to compromise your beliefs toward a greater accomplishment. It also represents your efforts to combine your talents or energies to achieve a mutual goal.

Looking at all these interpretations and my life I kind of feel that it’s right. That the combination of these pieces kind of point out things in my life. Thoughts?

I should have figured that this would eventually happen. I’ve noticed that in the last couple posts that most of them have been primarily about firearms and my passion for them, and straying away from the reasons I started this blog in my first place (For those of you who don’t know that’d be my car, video games and generally my life).

Also since my father and I are starting to push around the idea of doing something together in the world of firearms, I decided to get an early start to it by starting another blog in which I can start posting the crazy stuff we do and the reviews I choose to write about the stuff I’ve bought. I will be keeping all the original posts here, but I will be posting the First Shot videos, as well as maybe reusing the photos on the new blog. Especially if I’m the one who bought them (the M&P45 and M&P9 ring a bell on those)

Without Further ado: The new blog is Total RecoilFor the record… That’s not going to be the logo. Promise.

Smith & Wesson M&P9

On Thursday, April 21, 2010, I recieved an email from the good people at Four Seasons Firearms in Woburn, Massachusetts. I had recently registered for their email list because when I was looking for the M&P15-22 they said that they would notify everyone who was on their email list as soon as they had them in stock. This particular email stated that the Smith & Wesson M&P9 Carry and Range kit was finally approved by Massachusetts and that they had some in stock (and that they were getting the M&P40 in stock later in the week.) Once I heard this, I gave my dad a ring and I told him he had to talk me out of it, because the price was very good, and the M&P9 was something that I had originally wanted due to the fact that it was relatively cheap to shoot and with the carry and range kit, I would have the perfect holster to conceal carry it with. We discussed it for a couple minutes but the best of his efforts were not going to thwart my desire to go buy it. This frustrated him to the point where he said you know what if you have the money just do it and don’t think about it anymore. I took his advice and during my lunch hour at work I drove to Woburn and spoke with the guys at Four Seasons about purchasing it.

The kit itself comes with an extra magazine (3 total), a Blade-Tech holster, a Blade-Tech magazine pouch, a Maglula Uplula speed loader. Once I saw that everything was there and everything was in great shape I told the man wrap it up and start the process. After about an hour, I walked out of there with my new firearm and had to lock it up in my trunk until I got home and took some pictures of it.

The Complete M&P Family. The M&P15-22 purchased by my dad on Monday April 18th and the M&P9 purchased by me

I took the entire M&P family to the range on Sunday. But for now I’m going to focus about the M&P9. The gun was extremely accurate, the trigger was amazingly smooth, which is something I truly expected from the M&P Line-up. With the 100 rounds I put through it (PMC 124 grain), I had no failures which is another thing I expected from the M&P series and the guys at Smith & Wesson. The only downside happened when I came home and tried to fill the magazine. Each Magazine only accepted 9 rounds even though they were clearly marked for 10. On Tuesday (April 26th) I called Smith & Wesson and explained what was happening. They said to try to fill the magazine with 9 rounds and let the magazine sit to break in the spring, and that if in a couple days I still couldn’t fit 10 rounds in then to send them back to the company. Every day since when I have gotten home from work I have unloaded/reloaded the magazine a couple times a night. I can now get 10 rounds into the magazine however I cannot get the magazine into the gun! I’ve taken pictures documenting this and I am going to send all three magazines, with the pictures to Smith & Wesson so that I can get replacements for them.

This truly aggravates me because I know for a fact that it is because Smith & Wesson had to make a separate magazine for California and Massachusetts and that if I were able to purchase the firearm with three 17 round magazines that I would not have this issue whatsoever. But atlas the brillant Attourney General believes that even though I possess a LTC Class A Large Capacity license, I can only be trusted with magazines that contain more than ten rounds IF those magazines were made before 1994. Logic…? They don’t have it.

Hopefully when I send them back to Smith & Wesson we can get the issue remedied and I will be a truly happy camper.

As I said in my previous post, my dad purchased three new guns within the last month. I’ve seen two of them and gotten some pictures of them, so I wanted to post them up here before taking them to the range. Also, I plan on doing a video review of either the Taurus PT99, the Taurus PT100, or the S&W M&P45 tonight. Not sure which as of yet. My family has had the Taurus PT99 the longest and I’m definitely more accurate with it (just barely better than the M&P), but I’ve probably put more shots through the Taurus PT100 and I just figured out how it’s adjustable sights line up. But that’s just an excuse for the fact I haven’t sighted it in yet.

Anyways I present to you the Century Arms CETME and the Smith & Wesson M&P15-22

The third one my father purchased was a Saigar AK lookalike. I have not seen this gun however. I do plan on taking both of these as well as the Saigar and some other toys out to the range this weekend for some good ole fashion fun. I’ll try to bring the camcorder out there just to get some first shot clips.

Whoops, fell away from society again. I do that from time to time. It’s kind of nice to know that I could completely disappear and not many people would notice… I guess… Eh Whatever. Life is only what you’re going to make of it.

So what have I been up to recently you ask? Well you didn’t ask but I’m going to tell you about it anyways because you know what that’s what I’m here for and that is what I do… So get used to it you little bugger.

Let’s start about at the beginning of March, since that’s when this social desertion started. On March 4th, I said screw Facebook and twitter. If you wanted to hear from me, you’d have to find some other means of doing it. I deleted my twitter and locked down my Facebook account so that I could not log on to it. I had all the emails from facebook go to an email address I never used and I changed the email password to that email account just so I could essentially bar myself from it. Why didn’t I delete it? Because the few people I told I was going to do this bet I couldn’t last. So I left it up there so they could have a date as to my last post. The Twitter, no one cared about and I was just being followed by some pretentious asshats that looked to shoot me down on anything I said that didn’t meet their extreme leftist agenda. I’LL STOP AT THAT ON THIS THANK YOU VERY MUCH. [It was annoying damnit]

On March 7th, my company took us curling as sort of a bonding experience. I took two pictures of that as there was going to be a video that never surfaced. (I will hopefully find it because I believe it was quite hilarious.)

The Lanes

The lanes

The stones

The Stones

The place we went to was called Broomstones Curling Club in Wayland, Massachusetts. I highly recommend that if you’ve never tried it, to at least give it a shot. It was surprisingly fun, especially if you go in a group because if you make a fool of yourself, so what everyone else will too. We were taught all the basics from launching a stone, to sweeping and then finally strategy of the game. Once we had all the fundamentals down, we played two quick games with two ends. My team won both games which was a lot of fun.

On March 13th, My dad and I took my girlfriend Becky to the range for her first time. She said she wanted to learn about guns and we had a new .22LR to break in (The Sig Sauer Mosquito). I actually posted a short post about that below, so I won’t talk about this further.

Then nothing really awesome happened for a couple weeks. Busy with work, started doing Let’s Plays on a second YouTube channel (which you can view here if you want.)

On April 6th, I got to see my best friend graduate from the Connecticut Police Academy. It was definitely a pretty awesome ceremony and one I won’t forget. I’m truly proud of him because he is doing something he completely set his mind to. I don’t have any pictures of this because well, I gave them all to him and he hasn’t sent me any copies.

On April 10th, I went to Gillette Stadium just for fun with my family and girlfriend because they wanted to go to Bass Pro Shops. We had heard that it was very similar to Cabela’s and we were looking for a couple things. It’s a really cool place to go to but yea… it didn’t have anything we were looking for.

Gun Updates:
I’m just going to tackle this now and finish up this rather long post. My dad has purchased 3 rifles in the past couple weeks. The first one is a Century Arms CETME, The Second is a Saigar AK something (I have not seen this, he’s only told me about it on the phone), and the third is an M&P15-22 to replace the one I never got from Riverview Guns in CT. I am planning on doing some reviews, or at least getting started on the reviews of each of the firearms soon. Or at least more range videos…
